What to do immediately after an accident
Make safety your first priority. Check for injuries, contact the emergency services where necessary, exchange details and take photographs when it is safe.
What information should you collect?
Record the other driver's name, address, registration number, insurer details where available and the details of any witnesses. Photograph the vehicles, damage, road layout, signs and surrounding area when it is safe.
What if the other driver leaves?
Prioritise safety, record everything you can and report the incident to the appropriate authorities. Keep any reference information you receive.
What if the vehicle still drives?
A vehicle can move while still having serious damage. If you are unsure whether it is safe, get advice before continuing to drive.
